JORGE VILLAMIZAR is striking out on his own. The Colombian- American singer-composer and noted member of Bacilos recently introduced a record named after himself, one which he describes as the outcome of a self-search and the answer to a lot of questions. As he tells it, he drew on the immigrant spirit, unrequited love and self-discovery. “This record is very much a part of me. It’s very introspective, it’s about a search of identity and love issues. Its producer is Briton Richard Blair (of Sidestepper fame), who is very knowledgeable about Latin rhythms, and, though with a mellow drift to it, the recording is titillating. I’m very glad about the results”, the artist told DTM during the opening of ESPN Deportes’ 2008 season, in New York.

The Colombian, a part of Bacilos in such hard-hitting tunes as “Bacilos” and “Caraluna”, considers his experience in the group as leading him to appreciate how perseverance and zeal in the pursuit of one’s dreams play an equally vital role alongside talent. “With Bacilos I learned that anything is possible. I learned that I can come up with interesting stuff, and, most of all, can connect with people”.
